Total Disc Arthroplasty

For patients with severely damaged intervertebral discs, this procedure replaces the damaged disc it with an artificial disc which has been specifically selected for the patient. The new disc functions like a natural disc. The procedure is used to treat chronic, severe cervical pain resulting from degenerative disc disease. Cervical disc replacement can also be performed for symptomatic disc herniation with associated arm and hand symptoms.  Most patients return home a few days after surgery.  Activity levels, pain management and care of the incision will be thoroughly discussed with the patient prior to and after the procedure.
